It's a legitimate question. It can be a struggle to find your identity and worth. You may look for identity in your job, your relationships, your good behavior, or your role in society. But inside you feel turmoil: Am I enough?
God knows your identity. He created you, loves you, has a purpose for your life, and he wants you to have a close relationship with him.
Unfortunately, you, like every person who has ever lived, have a problem that keeps you separated from God. It’s called sin. Sin is rebellion against God’s love and his ways. Sin leads to brokenness and a self-absorbed way of life. Because God is holy and perfect, your sin has separated you from him. As harsh as it sounds, you deserve punishment, even death, because of your sin against God.
Because God loves you, he made a way for you to be reconciled to him, despite your sin. His Son, Jesus Christ, declared, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to Father except through me” (John 14:6).
Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life. But he was willing to die to take the punishment for your sin and the sin of everyone who has ever lived. Jesus then came back to life, defeating sin and death forever. The Bible says those who receive Jesus and believe in his name have the right to become children of God (John 1:12).
This can be your true, eternal identity: a child of God. Through Jesus, you can be secure in God’s endless love for you.
You can start a new relationship with God right now. Simply pray to him, telling him you know you're a sinner but that you want to turn away from your sin. Tell him you believe that his Son, Jesus, died on the cross and came back to life to save you from sin. Ask him to take control of your life and tell him you want to follow him forever. He will forgive you and fill you with his peace and love.
